Simple and gets the job done! Only thing I noticed is that you need to be careful when mounting it on the bridge as it is tight (likely for good reason).

Works well to keep the neighbors from getting mad. Adding this to an unplugged electric violin means you can practice with little more noise than listening to the radio at a good, regular, volume.

I bought this so I can still play when I can't sleep but rest of house is fits on the 4/4 so easy so quiet doesn't sound the same but if you are practicing a piece it does help get the fingerings down and help with getting familiar with it will take some time to get use to it but I can still play

Just what we needed. This is perfect for muting my daughter's violin. It mutes her practicing just enough to not make our ears bleed, and yet enough to where she can hear when her notes are off and out of tune. It was actually better than the one we purchased in the music store where she takes violin lessons. Her teacher preferred it over the store one too.

It actually makes a massive difference. Don't get me wrong, you're still VERY audible (could be quieter), but take it off and then play. Oh, you're going to be heard quite well at a distance. Do I think it could be used for a small house/thin-walled apartment? That's... iffy. Possibly. You won't want to play without it (or possibly a better mute), but you still may be heard.

This is a good muffler... good for practicing without annoying your neighbours. the rubber is in good quality, and it's soft, I think it will not hurt the bridge of violin. It's fun pushing real hard on the bow and have little sounds, and nobody complains! 5 stars.

This works very well! Love the lowered sound volume when playing with it on. I would say it mutes the sound about 50% which is more than the disc mute I have which is about 25%. Great for practicing and not being so loud for those around you. So easy to put on and doesn't put pressure on my bridge like disc mutes do. Probably mutes too much for concert playing but love to use it at home when practicing.

The biggest thing that prevented me from practicing my instrument was the noise and the embarrassment of people hearing me mess up. Once I got this mute I felt better because less people could hear my mistakes. This is a serious game changer I am an adult but wish I had this when I was a kid and first learning. You should get this for your child! It will help them build confidence.

I get home late many times with all I'm involved in and want to play late in the evening. Now I can by applying the Mega Mute (my personal name for it!) and no one, not even my two cats, are aware of it. I love to practice but rarely have enough time. I am expecting to hit the violin a little more regularly. I received it this month. Nothing holds a candle to this baby! Thank you for the opportunity to purchase it online.

Makes my "silent" Violin even silent-er. I had no idea if this would even work on a "silent" violin, but I had to try (since even "silent" violins can be a bit loud). I'm not sure what the decrease in volume is for an acoustic violin, but on a silent violin I would say it decreases the volume by ~30% (if it is placed on the bridge properly).

This muffler is very compact and nicely textured (rubber). It doesn't mute the violin completely (that's almost impossible!) but it does a great job at lowering the volume considerably. My sister in the next room can't hear me practicing at all when our doors are closed (in a concrete and brick house). I highly suggest buying one of these if you live in a house with other people that don't enjoy your music quite as much as you do (or if you're still learning). Definitely worth it for the price. Necessary for new violinists!

I sent this to my teenage daughter who is away for the summer, but brings her instruments everywhere with her. Her response was "I got my violin muffler. It works really good!" I personally know nothing about stringed instruments, but take her word for it. She was very excited to get it.

My daughter lost her first one (not sure how that happens) and requested another one like it. So I purchased another one. She also has a couple of different mufflers including a metal one (makes me nervous with how heavy it is and how much damage it could cause) and a small mute that is supposed to "live" on the instrument (I know there is a term for that). She (and I) both prefer this muffler. It does a good job quieting the instrument for practice. It isn't meant for performance. It is easy to get on and off and I don't worry about her damaging her instrument.

Mutes enough to prevent others from hearing too much even in the next room. don't get used to using it on a regular basis or you'll get used to the sound. I have noticed a difference between bowing resistance when on versus off. I've first bought four of these and then bought more as gifts.

Works very well! I'm a violin noob and have roommates. With that said, I didn't bother playing without this mute. After a while I started to question how much it was actually doing... I mean a stupid little rubber thing can't do THAT much to the violin, after all it is still a little loud... Curiosity got me and I took it off. HUGE difference. Must have for any new violinist with others in the house... unless of course you are trying to get them committed to an institution.

Just what I needed. Makes it so I can practice with people home and not be embarrassed. This sounds like no big deal but for shy musicians like myself, it can be the difference between playing and not playing.

This works well on both my violin and my viola. Unlike the old brass practice mute I had, it does not scratch or harm your instrument should you accidentally drop it. It also does no harm to the bridge. The sound is well muffled so my family cannot hear me practicing in the next room (what a relief for them). I often use it just to spare my ears from the louder level of the constant sound next to my ear while practicing. It also works well for practicing with a youtube video so you can have the piano accompaniment, for instance a Beethoven violin sonata, because you can hear both the sound of your instrument and the music coming from the computer speaker.

Works very well. I tested it by playing in my room with and without it and having my sister listen to me playing from the room next door. She said she could pretty much hear every note without it, but when I placed it, she could barely hear anything, even though everything was turned off in her room and she was paying attention to me playing. So in a realistic situation, a person in the next room or next door can't really hear anything. I would have given it five stars but the rubber seems a bit too flexible for my taste. Would have preferred if it were a bit more solid, if that makes sense. It also will not scratch your violin because it's rubber, unlike some of the metal ones.
